Exciting lecture on Museum Monday

The theme of Museum Monday on 17 June was ‘There’s never been such an exciting start to the week’. This was brought to life when 25 thriller writers generated 25 special events in 25 leading museums all over the Netherlands. The Van Gogh Museum organised a lecture with Theo and Marianne Hoogstraaten, authors of works such as Kinderspel and Verleiding. Together with researchers Louis van Tilborgh and Teio Meedendorp they told their audience of their fascination with Vincent van Gogh, and their affinity for and identification with a number of his works.

Audience members could then view the exhibition Van Gogh at work or enjoy a multimeda tour at a reduced rate. In the afternoon Theo and Marianne Hoogstraaten signed their books in the museum bookshop.

25th anniversary
This year Museum Monday was organised by the BankGiro Lottery and the CPNB (the Foundation for the Promotion of Dutch Books). The theme was the 25th anniversary of ‘June – Exciting Book Month’. Entry to one of the 25 museums and participation in the programme cost € 10. Free admission was granted to visitors who had the gift book Nooit alleen by Loes den Hollander with them. Throughout the month of June book stores presented this book to all their customers who spent € 12.50 or more on Dutch books.
