Three museums contribute to the Cultural Foodbank

The Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum pledged to contribute to the Cultural Foodbank, by distributing admission tickets every month at Foodbank outlets in Amsterdam.

People who use the Foodbank are often deprived of art and culture. The Cultural Foodbank is an initiative of the Orkater theatre group and was launched in December 2012. It already allowed Foodbank clients to pick up unsold tickets at a large number of theatres on the day of performance.

Director Axel Rüger spoke on behalf of the three museums: ‘It is important to make art and culture accessible to people who are interested in these but lack the opportunities to engage in them. We hope that our support for this initiative will help to lower the threshold for museum visits, and motivate other cultural institutions to follow our example.’
